KMDC Annual Dinner 2017 on 16th June 2017

On 15th June 2017, we had a wonderful evening with members and friends of KMDC enjoying delicious food and 2 great presentations in Yau Yat Chuen City Garden Club.

Mr. Peter Cheung, ex-Director of Intellectual Property Department HK SAR, gave us an opening speech on the value of copyrights and its relationship with knowledge management. Peter substantiated his argument with interesting stories of intellectual property including his personal experience in creative work. Our keynote speaker Mr. Trevor Lui shared with us his engagement journey in “Fishbowl” activities of World Bank Group and also his World Bank project experience in Africa and Shanghai. He also talked about the “building of knowledge sharing organization” with examples of an agricultural farm in Africa.

We would like to give special thanks to Manchester Business School, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals and also our Chairman Eric Chan for sponsoring table prizes and lucky draws. Also, we have surprising gifts sent by Ms Daisy Chou, our honorable founding Chairlady, all the way from Melbourne.

We are happy to see many new faces and new members on top of our old members. Our sincere thanks also go to current members and Corporate Members for their continued support to KMDC. We look forward to organizing another event in the near future and sharing knowledge and fun with our members and KM community.

Next Generation Re-Targeting Successfully Held

We have an amazing evening with Mr. Ravel Lai, Group IT Director of Jardine Restaurant Group on Thursday night, 20th October 2016. It is without a doubt one of the highly memorable sharing we have had!

Speaking with real life examples and occasional humor, Ravel was able to captivate all our attention. He was able to engage with all our guests. Everyone was left with an up-beat mood knowing that Hong Kong is still a place for innovative marketeers. Beginning with an overview of digital marketing, Ravel re-visited the campaign he is heading where, between 2014 and 2015, he single handedly turn around the Pizza Hut loyalty program from negative growth to positive growth at a fraction of the cost of a traditional market program such as TV commercial. The success was not only about his ingenuity market sense and intuition in correctly predicting the behavior of his target customers but it also demonstrated his perseverance on what he believes in. He reminded us the important of the 3 right's, i.e. right target, right moment and right offer and revealed the secret of his success to all marketeers, "Think for the customers". On innovation, Ravel put it this way, many said he is thinking out-of-the-box, in reality, it is the box being too small for him! We can be certain we shall see more successful marketing ideas coming out of the Pizza Hut loyalty program in the coming months.

We are happy to see some new faces and new members that evening! Our sincere thanks to current KMDC members and Corporate members such as Census and Statistics Department and Tung Wah Hospital Group for their un-relentless support for coming to this sharing dinner. KMDC looks forwarding to meeting you in the next event. You can relive the events by click on here.

It is not surprising to see great audience engagement during and presentation and many questions were asked and answered.

Creating and Sustaining Community of Practice at Huawei

After the fruitful knowledge exchange at the KMDC Annual Dinner in April, we would like to continue our quest on how a company could develop and create human capital. No ‘process or tool’ is near effective and powerful on our human Capital as building a ‘Community of Practice’. And there are not many international organizations that have shown strong commitment and achieved well-recognized successes in building CoPs as Huawei. It is, therefore, our great delight to have Mr William Liang, Knowledge Management Manager at Huawei, to share with us on the topic,‘Ignite the Trend!’. In this talk, he will showcase his valuable and highly practical experience and techniques on CoP management.

William’s talk will cover: The reasons behind creating a Community of Practice (CoP) and how it relates to the business objective and operations; the reasons why there is a sentiment of lack of participation in many CoPs; and how we can stimulate activities and achieve a branding effect for a CoP

WILLIAM LIANG

Mr William Liang is Huawei's first knowledge management level-6 expert, currently the highest level among Huawei KM experts. He has 9 years of Huawei research and development experience, 7 years of R&D management experience, as well as 4 years of experience in community operations. He is the Practice Owner of Huawei CoP.

William is a leader of community ‘Hardware Garden’, which is the most reputable community at Huawei. The community is connected to the 17,000 employees of hardware R&D, focusing on business strategy, and organizing many high-quality community activities. His works support business and at the same time also promote community maturity to maintain high speed development.

William has, for 3 consecutive years, won the Huawei knowledge management major awards, and at present the community that he leads ranks No.1 among Huawei 8000+ communities. With good grasp of industry trends, insight into the psychology of employees and well-planned community events, William fosters a strong sense of CoP participation from Huawei employees.

In order to ensure participants to have more in-depth discussion with William, with his colleagues and with KMDC EXCOs, we would like to limit our seats to 30. Priority will be given to the current and renewal members and their guests. This is a great opportunity to learn from a CoP expert and therefore, please register early. KMDC Annual Dinner 2015 - Thank You and Photos

It is a pleasure to have met so many old friends and new acquaintances in our KMDCAnnual Dinner 2015 last month. We have heard many great praises from some of the participants; we feel we must take this opportunity to express our thanks to you who have made this event successful.

To our two lively speakers, Dr. Liu Wing Sun and Mr. Benjamin Linh, we must particularly thank them for their lively presentation and sharing on their views on Fast Fashion industry. Dr. Liu has pointed out how fashion cultures around the world were nurtured. Whereas, Mr. Linh has attributed a “Rapid Growth” retailer approached creativity with strong conviction and high degree of respect to individual. The ad hoc exchanges session was so enlightening and it demonstrated how academic and practice converge to a common ground.

We would like to express our gratitude to Mr. Freddie Tang from VMWare who has sponsored our table gifts and we thank all our corporate members, members and student members for your continuing support.

Finally, I would like to thank all our volunteers who had made the event seemed effortless, but only in disguise.

Please share this enjoyable event with your friends and colleagues from the following link:https://storage.biznetvigator.com/OwOFNMyb
